Tips on Developing and Maintaining a Healthy and Comfortable Workspace
Your feet should be planted firmly on the ground, legs at a right angle to the floor and thighs firmly against the cushion.
Your chair's seat should be rounded in front to prevent cutting off circulation behind the knee, and your weight should be distributed evenly on the seat.
Your chair's height should allow wrists to be straight while typing.
Look for chairs with adjustable height, backrest, and armrests.
Periodically check your posture and make necessary improvements.
If your desk is too high, raise your seat and use a footrest so your wrists are at a straight angle, or bring
the keyboard down to comfortable level by attaching a sliding keyboard tray to the desk.
If you're going to be typing for extended periods, look for a keyboard that conforms to the physiology of a
human hand as well as to your body.
If you use your computer mouse for long periods, look for a chair with height-adjustable armrests. Resting your
elbow on it will keep the strain off your shoulders and allow your hand to be at a right angle to the mouse, which
should be positioned next to the keyboard.
The top of your monitor should be aligned with your eyesight when you're sitting down at about an arm's length
away from the screen.
If you work at a computer for extended periods, take your eyes off the screen and look away at a distance at least
once an hour.
Sit at your desk for no more than five hours at a stretch each day, and take frequent breaks during the workday to
stretch or walk around the office.
